Man injured with meat cleaver; second man charged in Mascot

A man will appear in court today charged after allegedly injuring another man with a meat cleaver in Sydney’s south yesterday.

Police have been told about 6.15pm on Friday (20 November 2020), two men – aged 44 and 46 – were involved in an argument at a unit on High Street, Mascot, before the older man allegedly stabbed the younger man in the hand with a meat cleaver.

The injured man walked to O’Riordan Street, where local police noticed and rendered assistance.

He was taken to St Vincent’s Hospital, before being transferred to Sydney Hand Hospital for specialist treatment.

A short time later, officers from South Sydney Police Area Command attended the High Street unit and arrested the 46-year-old man.

A crime scene was established and examined by specialist forensic police.

The man was taken to Mascot Police Station and charged with wound with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

He was refused bail to appear before Parramatta Bail Court today (Saturday 21 November 2020).
