Metre indoor pool set to reopen as maintenance draws to

Restoration work in the indoor pool hall at Orange Aquatic Centre is nearing completion and Orange City Council expects swimmers will be able to use the 25-metre indoor pool on Monday.

Orange Aquatic Centre was closed on March 24 due to COVID-19 restrictions and council staff took the opportunity to carry out necessary improvements to the leisure pool while it was closed, including stripping back and repainting the surface.

Once the repairs were underway it was discovered more extensive work was required to properly restore the surface, however the life of the leisure pool has been significantly extended due to the remediation.

MAINTENANCE: Work on the ‘Toddlers’ Pool’ will be complete in time for the indoor pool hall to re-open.

The indoor pool hall has been off-limits to the public for safety reasons during the works.

Aquatic Centre users have been swimming in the heated 50-metre outdoor pool, which was reopened in mid-May when COVID-19 restrictions were lifted.

Sport and Recreation Community Committee Chair Jason Hamling thanked the swimmers of Orange for their patience while the maintenance was carried out.

“It will be great to be back swimming in the warmth of the indoor pool hall and the 28-degree water of the 25-metre pool,” Cr Jason Hamling said.

“Let’s be a COVID-safe community by complying with government health orders and following the rules for everyone’s benefit.”

When the 25-metre indoor pool reopens the 50-metre outdoor pool will be closed, until early October.

The leisure pool and toddler pool will be reopened as soon as possible.

The 25-metre indoor pool will operate in accordance with government COVID-19 health regulations, which means pool use is restricted to swimming only, with four adults or six children allowed to occupy each lane.
