More Classrooms being Delivered to Territory Schools

NT Government

The roll out of the Territory Labor Governments $11 million classroom stimulus program is continuing to enhance school infrastructure and support local jobs.

Continuing to maintain our education assets means stronger learning environments.

In April this year the Territory Government awarded a $6 million tender to build 15 new classrooms for our remote schools and students with additional needs.

This week three classrooms will be delivered to Woodroffe Primary for the beginning of term 4, to further support their students with additional needs.

Classrooms at Nightcliff Primary have also been delivered, with the Ngukurr and Gapuwiyak also receiving their new classrooms.

The new classrooms provide high-quality educational spaces with good acoustic qualities and state-of-the-art IT connectivity.

Schools that will benefit from these new classrooms are:

Alekerenge – 3;Newcastle Waters – 1;Gapuwiyak – 2;Neutral Junction – 1;Ngukurr – 2;Woodroffe Primary – 3; andNightcliff Primary (includes one for Nemarluk Annexe) – 2Bradshaw Primary School – 1

The majority of the classrooms will be constructed in urban centres and transported to remote communities, and in most cases, replace aged infrastructure with the stimulus including a modest allowance for the demolition of current buildings.

Quotes attributable to Minister for Education Lauren Moss:

“The Territory Labor Government is investing in school infrastructure by providing quality learning environments for our teachers and students, to continue deliver high-quality teaching and learning programs tailored to meet the needs of their students.

“Ten of the 15 classrooms will be delivered to remote areas across Barkly and Arnhem with five for students with additional needs already delivered in Palmerston and Darwin.

“We know that a strong, inclusive and supportive education system will see all students, irrespective of their ability, reach their full potential and achieve meaningful outcomes, and this project will see these two schools receive much-needed classrooms that will provide learning amenities to support students with additional needs.”
