National Karate Championships To Pack Punch In Tasmania

Tasmanian Government

Australia’s karate community has flocked to Hobart for the 2026 Karate Australia National Championships.

Parliamentary Secretary for Sport and Youth Engagement, Rob Fairs, said the championships deliver the pinnacle of the nation’s karate competition right here in Tasmania, with around 900 athletes taking part.

“It is a pleasure to welcome competitors and visitors to Tasmania for this prestigious event, with athletes set to compete across a range of kata and kumite divisions, showcasing the dedication, skill and discipline that define this remarkable sport,” Mr Fairs said.

“The championships are expected to attract around 2000 interstate visitors to the state, providing a valuable boost to Tasmania’s winter economy and supporting local businesses, accommodation providers and hospitality venues.”

Delivering events is a key part of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future, with the Government investing $80,000 to support Karate Tasmania to deliver the national championship experience.

“Tasmania is proud to host the championships once again, having last held the event in 2019,” Mr Fairs said.

“Events like these not only showcase elite sporting competition, but they also inspire the next generation of athletes and provide opportunities for communities to come together through sport.

“I wish all competitors every success over the course of the event and thank officials and volunteers whose hard work and dedication have made these championships possible.”

The 2026 Karate Australia National Championships run 10-12 July at MyState Bank Arena, Hobart.
