NSW police charge woman after pursuit at Tamworth

A woman has been charged with traffic offences as investigations continue into a pursuit in the state’s north-east yesterday.

About 4.30pm on Wednesday (28 July 2021), officers attached to Traffic and Highway Patrol Command stopped a grey Nissan Dualis sedan on Armidale Road at Tamworth, for the purpose of a random breath test.

When the vehicle stopped, police will allege the male driver and front seat female passenger swapped seats.

Subsequently, police attempted to arrest the man; however; the vehicle was driven away.

A pursuit was initiated throughout the Tamworth CBD, during which the sedan crashed into a stationary vehicle before driving off from the scene. The pursuit was terminated due to safety concerns.

A short time later, police found the sedan stopped on Mountview Crescent at Oxley Vale. Police located an 18-month-old child in the vehicle, who was uninjured.

A 20-year-old woman was arrested and taken to Tamworth Police Station.

The woman was charged with police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously, use offensive weapon in company to prevent detention, resist or hinder police officer in execution of duty, not stop vehicle when directed to do so, drive in a manner dangerous and not give particulars to other driver.

She was granted conditional bail to appear before Tamworth Local Court on Monday 16 August 2021.

The woman’s licence was also suspended.
