Official Opening of Shoalhaven Indoor Sports Centre

Communities in the Shoalhaven region are set to benefit from the completed redevelopment and official opening of the Shoalhaven Indoor Sports Centre tonight (Friday 15/11/2019).

Illawarra-based Liberal Senator Concetta Fierravanti-Wells said, “The project will deliver a modern world class sporting, recreational and community facility located in Bomaderry for the Shoalhaven region”.

“This multi-functional centre will bring people of all ages and backgrounds together to increase social cohesion and community spirit as well as reduce social isolation”, Senator Fierravanti-Wells added.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development Michael McCormack said the Australian Government’s $2.8 million investment in sporting infrastructure would provide long term benefits to the Shoalhaven region.

“In addition to attracting more people to take part in sport, recreational and community activities, this investment will also produce long-term economic benefits to the region as it is expected to increase economic activity by an estimated $65.9 million,” Mr McCormack said.

Senator Fierravanti-Wells added, “By supporting 100 jobs in construction and creating an expected 10 ongoing jobs after completion, in addition to using local businesses and supplies, this project will help bring economic prosperity to Bomaderry for many years to come.”

“I commend Shoalhaven City Council for making the substantial investment of almost $14.1 million to undertake and complete this project. It will have a positive lasting legacy on the community,” Senator Fierravanti-Wells said.
