Our Place site option 1 adopted

At a Special Meeting today, Swan Hill Rural City Council today adopted Site Option 1 for the new iconic Our Place building.

Site Option 1 is inside the Pioneer Settlement to the north of the Gem and will house the art gallery, visitor services, the Pioneer Settlement entrance and a new Aboriginal cultural experience.

Swan Hill Rural City Council Mayor Bill Moar said this option was sympathetic to the natural setting of the site.

“The motion was carried and included an agreement to retain the windmill and train on the Pioneer Settlement grounds,” Cr Moar said.

“Council will also investigate repair works for the Pental Island Bridge.

“The current design came about as a result of feedback from the community that a free flowing design would be more suited to the area, rather than the initial box-shaped design,” Cr Moar added.

Cr Moar said in making the decision, Council contemplated all of the site and design considerations, as well as feedback from the community.

“On behalf of Council, we extend our thanks to all community members who participated in the consultation process.

“The feedback from the community is appreciated and has helped to shape this decision.”

Cr Moar added that Councillors were delighted to have made a decision on the site and to be moving forward with the Our Place project.

Detailed designs will now be developed and further community consultation will take place once they are completed.
