Skills Matching Service operational

Jeremy Rockliff,Minister for Education and Training

As part of our commitment to supporting workers who have lost their jobs due to the COVID-19 situation and associated business trading restrictions, the new Rapid Response Skills Matching Service is now operational.

The Skills Matching Service will assess the skills of displaced workers and match them to businesses who need new, work-ready employees, helping to get more Tasmanians back to work faster.

Specialist Tasmanian labour hire and recruitment company Searson Buck has been engaged to match workers and businesses under the new service.

The Searson Buck team is working through registrations already received from both displaced individuals and hiring businesses to match the right people with the right skills to the right jobs.

They will work with Tasmanian businesses to identify the skilled personnel they require in these rapidly changing times, to help sustain their business operations in the short to medium term, and plan for the longer term.

Importantly, if people need upskilling with licences or qualifications, Searson Buck will also work with our Rapid Response Skills Training Support program to identify the best employment pathway and training options to get them into jobs as fast as possible.

This is in addition to the Rapid Response Skills Initiative which provides up to $3,000 for career advice and training for people who have lost their jobs because they have been made redundant, the place they worked has closed or their employer had to let staff go. This will do more than just cover training fees – it can also include text books, materials for study and new work equipment such as safety gear.
