An unaccompanied learner driver has been charged after allegedly being detected drink-driving twice within four hours in the Riverina region yesterday.
About 12.45am (Saturday 19 September 2020), officers from the Traffic and Highway Patrol Command were patrolling Goldfields Way, Temora, when they detected a Toyota Tarago allegedly travelling above the 50km/h speed limit.
Police stopped the Toyota and spoke to the driver, a 40-year-old woman, before checks revealed she was on a learner licence.
She was breath tested at the scene, which allegedly returned a positive result.
The woman was arrested and taken to Temora Police Station where a secondary breath analysis returned an alleged reading of 0.139.
She was issued a Court Attendance Notice for drive with middle range PCA and infringement notices for learner not accompanied by driver/police officer/tester, learner driver not display “L” plates as prescribed, and motor vehicle exceed speed (less than 10km/h). Her licence was also suspended.
About 4.15am the same day, police noticed the Toyota Tarago crashed on the Olympic Highway, Wagga Wagga.
Police spoke to the same driver, before she underwent another breath test, which allegedly returned a positive reading.
The woman was arrested and taken to Wagga Wagga Police Station where a secondary breath analysis returned an alleged reading of 0.135.
She was issued a further Court Attendance Notice for drive with middle range PCA and drive motor vehicle while licence suspended.
The woman is due to appear at Wagga Wagga Local Court on Wednesday 4 November 2020.
