Appeal for assistance after attempted robbery in Putney

Police are appealing for public assistance following an attempted robbery in Sydney’s north over the easter long weekend.

Just before 6am on Monday (18 April 2022), a 78-year-old man parked at Putney Park on Pellisier Road and began walking into the park to set up for a gathering, when he was approached by two men.

The pair demanded the man’s wallet, producing a knife; however, he refused, and they fled empty-handed.

The man attended Ryde Police Station on Tuesday (19 April 2022), with officers commencing an investigation into the incident.

As part of their inquiries, officers were informed that a second man was seen leaving the park in a distressed state around the same time, but it is unknown if he had also been confronted by the pair.

The two men are both described as being of Caucasian appearance. The first man was aged in his 40s, with short black hair, facial hair and wearing long pants. The second man was only described as being aged in his 20s.
