The steering committee of the Broken Hill Community Withdrawal and Residential Rehabilitation Centre and its partners in the community invites the people of Broken Hill and the Far West of NSW to sign a petition to support the creation of a local facility.

Residents of Broken Hill and the towns in the Far West face added disadvantages when seeking residential withdrawal and rehabilitation services. The closest NSW facility is over 800 kms from Broken Hill and this distance, along with the absence of support from friends and family when away from home and country, makes accessing services incredibly difficult and reducing the opportunity for success.

“People seeking services want to be well and deserve that opportunity. They want to reclaim their lives, their health, and their well-being for the benefit of themselves, their loved ones, and their community. The people of this region deserve a chance to be free from the debilitating effects of alcohol and other drugs impacting negatively on their lives”, said Joanie Sanderson, Chair of the Broken Hill Community steering group.

The cost of addiction to the Justice and Health departments is substantial. “The Steering Committee and our community partners believe that the money is better spent supporting people to be healthy contributors to the community. We ask your support by signing and sharing this petition” said Ms Sanderson.

The petition must attract 10 000 signatures to be presented to the NSW Government.
