NSW police charge man after assault and pursuit at Berkeley

A man will face court today charged with seven offences, following an alleged assault and police pursuit in a stolen vehicle in Berkeley.

Shortly after 10.40am Friday (13 September 2019), a white Nissan Dualis was allegedly stolen from outside commercial premises in Berkeley.

Police attended a home on Nannawilli Street, Berkeley, shortly after and witnessed the driver of the vehicle reversing before hitting a tree and driving away.

Shortly after 1.30pm police located the vehicle in Berkeley and directed the driver to stop. When the driver failed to stop, a pursuit was initiated.

The vehicle came to a stop on Weerona Street and a 26-year-old man was removed from the vehicle and arrested, before being taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station where he refused a breath analysis.

The man was charged with take and drive conveyance without consent, disqualified driver, stalk/intimidation, assault, malicious damage, police pursuit and refuse breath analysis.

He was refused bail to appear before Wollongong Local Court today (Monday 16 September 2019).
