A man will face court today charged following an investigation into the alleged sexual abuse of a girl in the Illawarra region.
Earlier this month, detectives from Lake Illawarra Police District commenced an investigation following reports a girl had been sexually assaulted by a man known to her.
Following extensive inquiries, detectives attended a property on Waples Road, Unanderra, about 2.30pm yesterday (Thursday 30 July 2020), and arrested a 32-year-old man.
He was taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station, where he has been charged with six counts of aggravated sexual assault – victim under the age of 16 years.
Police will allege the man abused the girl on an ongoing basis between 2002 and 2005, while she was aged between 10 and 13.
It’s further alleged on Tuesday 21 July 2020, the man attended a home in Berkeley wearing a clown mask, before using a large sharpened stick to attack a 29-year-old man that was known to him. The man then allegedly used a knife to make further threats, before fleeing.
The 29-year-old man sustained lacerations to his ear and was taken to hospital for treatment to his injuries.
Officers from Lake Illawarra Police District attended and commenced inquiries.
The 32-year-old man has been charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and armed with intent to commit indictable offence in relation to this incident.
He was refused bail to appear in Wollongong Local Court today (Friday 31 July 2020).
