Police make arrests after carjacking

Police have arrested two youths after an alleged carjacking in Westmeadows this morning.

Investigators have been told three youths booked a ride share vehicle from Tullamarine to an address in Westmeadows about 12.45am.

The ride was cancelled midtrip by one of the group.

The driver pulled over in Ripplebrook Drive to let the occupants out and was assaulted by two of the youths.

He was forced from the vehicle and chased off by one of the group who then returned to the car and drove it away.

Police were notified and local units spotted the car.

They notified the Air Wing who then followed the vehicle to a shopping complex in Maribyrnong.

Officers were immediately on scene as the offenders attempted to dump the vehicle and flee.

They arrested two boys, a 15-year-old from Airport West and a 16-year-old from Gladstone Park, at the scene.

Both are currently assisting police with their enquires.

The third occupant is yet to be identified but is believed to have left the vehicle before the car arrived in Maribyrnong.
