The Greater Bendigo City Council is planning to fund a series of projects to encourage active lifestyles and build a healthier community in the 2019/2020 proposed Budget.
Sports facilities and recreation investment highlights include:
- Construction of a new skate park, Epsom
- Continued construction of Garden Gully Hockey Pavilion, Ironbark
- Redevelopment of Ewing Park Oval, Bendigo
- Upgrade lighting and install an electronic scoreboard at Canterbury Park, Eaglehawk
- Installation of lighting at La Trobe University Bendigo Athletics Complex, Flora Hill
- Completion of QEO netball change rooms
- Construction of the City’s first on-road protected bike lane from Somerville Street to Bendigo South East College and La Trobe University
- Shared footpath construction along the Calder Highway at Maiden Gully
- Upgrade of the cricket nets at Lake Weeroona Oval
- New dog park in Heathcote (location yet to be decided)
Mayor Cr Margaret O’Rourke said a growing community needed high quality recreation facilities that were re well maintained.
“One of our Community Plan goals is to create a much healthier Greater Bendigo. Sport and recreation are important aspects of community life in Greater Bendigo and we need to support that participation by ensuring facilities are kept to a high standard,” Cr O’Rourke said.
“Maintaining and improving our recreational infrastructure is important to ensure residents are able to be outside and active, either playing organised sport or enjoying our parks.”
Submissions to the proposed 2019/2020 Budget are best submitted by completing an online form at www.bendigo.vic.gov.au/budget by close of business on Friday May 17, 2019. Residents may also elect to have their submission heard at a meeting at Council to be held on Wednesday May 22, 2019 at 5.30pm at the main office, 195 Lyttleton Terrace, Bendigo.
