With the popularity of the south coast’s national parks at an all-time high, campers are reminded to check availability and book ahead this Easter long weekend.
NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service Area Manager, Jo Issaverdis, said visitation to Deua and Mimosa Rocks National Parks often peak around Easter time and campsites generally reach capacity.
‘Visitors must pre-book all campsites online, regardless of the length of their stay or how many times they have stayed there before.’ Ms Issaverdis said.
‘Bookings are essential to avoid disappointment and to ensure everyone has the same opportunity to enjoy their holiday.
‘Also, while we love welcoming people to these not so secret pockets of the south coast, please remember that dogs are not permitted in NSW National Parks.
‘Even the most well behaved and friendly dogs can have an impact on the natural environment in these special places.
‘Dogs are welcome in NSW state forests and there are several dog friendly private campgrounds in the Eurobodalla Area outside of national parks.
‘For the most part, visitors and campers are very respectful, but a handful continue to undertake prohibited activities such as entering closed areas or cutting down trees for firewood. The actions of a few can really impact the enjoyment of many.
‘To make sure people have an excellent Easter experience, we are stepping up patrols across Deua and surrounding national parks from this weekend.
‘Rangers and field staff will be in and around campsites making sure that everyone is happy and safe, and may issue fines to those found not doing the right thing.’ Ms Issaverdis remarks.
