The Northern Territory Police Force have arrested a 16-year-old male following an attempted aggravated burglary in Katherine yesterday.
At about 3:15pm, police received a report that a male had allegedly used an axe to attempt to force entry through the sliding glass door of a residence.
An occupant who was inside the home moved to a safe location and contacted someone for assistance.
Katherine General Duties members responded and recovered an axe from the scene. Police reviewed CCTV footage and identified an alleged offender.
The 16-year-old, who was subject to electronic monitoring and bail conditions, was located and arrested at about 7:25pm.
He remains in custody and is expected to be charged with attempted aggravated burglary and related offences.
Superintendent Mark Bland, said the arrest was the result of a prompt response.
“Police responded quickly, gathered the available evidence and identified and arrested the alleged offender within hours.
“Everyone deserves to feel safe in their home, and Katherine police will continue working closely with the community to respond to offending and keep residents safe.”
