Coronavirus update for Victoria 13 November 2021

Yesterday, 10,708 vaccine doses were administered by Victoria’s state-commissioned services. The total number of doses administered through state-run services is 4,758,192.

93.4 per cent of Victorians aged 16 and over have now had at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and 87.4 per cent have had two doses. 93.0 per cent of Victorians aged 12 and over have now had at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and 86.4 per cent have had two doses. This excludes the most recent Commonwealth data.

There are 405 COVID-19 cases in hospital in Victoria. 77 of those cases are in intensive care, with 51 cases on a ventilator. Of those in hospital, 74 per cent were not fully vaccinated, and of those in ICU, 93 per cent were not fully vaccinated.

Victoria was notified of 1,221 new cases of COVID-19 yesterday. All cases were locally acquired. The 10 Local Government Areas with the highest number of new cases are Casey, Wyndham, Greater Dandenong, Hume, Brimbank, Melton, Melbourne, Port Phillip, Glen Eira and Whittlesea.

All locations containing new cases will be published today at Victorian COVID-19 data.

There are 16,671 active cases in Victoria. The total number of confirmed cases in Victoria since the beginning of the pandemic is 103,760.

Sadly, the Department was notified yesterday of four deaths of people aged in their 60s, 70s and 90s. This brings the total number of deaths in Victoria since the pandemic began to 1,222.

60,818 COVID-19 tests were processed yesterday. The total number of tests performed in Victoria since the pandemic began is 14,092,812.

There are currently more than 78,580 active primary close contacts in isolation in Victoria.

Resumption of elective surgery

From yesterday, private hospitals in Ballarat, Shepparton, Latrobe, and Bendigo can perform elective surgery at up to 50 per cent capacity per week at each facility.

From Monday 15 November, private hospitals in Geelong and metropolitan Melbourne can resume elective surgery up to 50 per cent capacity per week at each facility.

Wastewater detections

COVID-19 viral fragments have been detected in wastewater samples taken from the following regional areas:

  • Stawell – repeated unexpected detections between 28 October and 11 November
  • Lorne – repeated unexpected detections between 31 October and 10 November
  • Hamilton – unexpected detection for the period 7-11 November
  • Barwon Heads – unexpected detection for the period 7-10 November
  • Nhill – unexpected detection for the period 7-10 November.

The detections could be an undiscovered new case or cases or could be the result of one or more people in these areas who have recovered from COVID-19 but are still shedding the virus.

Anyone who lives in, works in or has visited the areas above is urged to watch for the mildest of COVID-19 symptoms and get tested as soon as possible if symptoms develop.
