The Rockliff-Ferguson Government needs to explain why it will not support a wage increase for Tasmania’s lowest paid workers.
Premier Jeremy Rockliff has today confirmed his government failed to make a submission to the Fair Work Commission’s upcoming annual wage review.
Tasmania is the only state whose government has not made a submission to any of the last four annual wage reviews.
Given average wages in Tasmania are $11,000 lower than in mainland states and our cost of living is no longer any lower, there is no state that would benefit more from a wage increase for the lowest paid workers.
The Premier refused to join with the Federal Labor Government’s submission to the annual wage review to back a pay rise for people on the minimum wage.
